Addressing Social Equity and Public Health in Metro Long Range Transportation Plan

Currently, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Agency (“Metro”) is updating its Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), a 30 year plan representing over $300 billion dollars through 2050 in the region. The LRTP update is proceeding in parallel with the formulation of a potential 2016 ballot measure to levy an additional half-cent sales tax for transportation, yielding up to $24 billion in new revenue over 30 years for new projects and programs. This coming year will prove to be a critical time period for Los Angeles County stakeholders to weigh in with a policy platform rooted in social equity and public health.
